Youth Classes

The City of Artesia is proud to offer a variety of classes for our youth and adult particpants. Please check our schedule of classes to see which one best suits your needs!

NOTE: Classes may be held outdoors. Pre-registration is required. Class size may be limited to allow for social distancing. Additional protocols may be in place such as the use of face masks and the use of participants own equipment. PLease do not arrive earlier than 10 minutes prior to class and promptly leave when class has ended.

Beginning Ballet and Tumbling

Instructor: Marycarmen Garcia

Cost:  Session II, III $60 

Dates: Session II: January 6 – February 10 (6 weeks)

            Session II: February 17 – March 24 (6 weeks)

Times: 6:15pm - 7:00pm

Ages: 5-8

Class will start with a warmup and stretch with fun music and then move to the ballet barre for basic technique. Dancers will learn traveling steps, followed by center floor combinations and a routine. More fun after that with moves that build strength on the tumbling mat, such as pencil rolls, crabwalks, somersaults, etc. At the end of the session we will perform a routine to show off what we have learned!


Jazz & Hip Hop

Instructor: Marycarmen Garcia

Cost:  Session II, III $60

Dates: Session II: January 6 – February 10 (6 weeks)

             Session II: February 17 – March 24 (6 weeks) Ages: 5-8

Times: 5:30pm - 6:15pm

Ages: 5-8

This fun and upbeat class will introduce young dancers to jazz warmup, technique, and combinations. We will also learn hip-hop styles and use both jazz and hip-hop technique in a routine we will perform at the end of the session.


Pre-Ballet & Tap

Instructor: Devyn Patri

Cost: Session II, III $60

Dates:  Session II: January 6 – February 10 (6 weeks)

             Session II: February 17 – March 24 (6 weeks) Ages: 3-6

Times: 4:30pm - 5:15pm

Ages: 3-6

Calling all mini dancers! Young dancers will learn to use their imagination to leap over puddles and point their toes! We will learn ballet positions and technique in a fun way. Dancers will also dive into basic tap. 

Jazz & Lyrical

Instructor: Devyn Patri

Cost: Session II, III $60

Dates: Session II: January 6 – February 10 (6 weeks)

             Session II: February 17 – March 24 (6 weeks)

 Times: 3:45pm - 4:30pm

Ages: 5-8

This fun and upbeat class will introduce young dancers to jazz and lyrical warm up, technique, and combinations. We will use contrast upbeat sassy jazz styles with soft and expressive lyrical and use both jazz and lyrical technique in a routine we will perform at the end of the session.


CYSC Cheerleading 

Instructor: Delores Cowan

Cost:  $90.00   (additional Uniform $85 and PomPom $30 fees paid directly to the instructor)

Dates: Jan 10– March 28    Mondays  ( No class 1/17 and 2/21)

Times: 6:00pm -6:30pm Jr. Stars ages 5-7   

             6:40pm - 7:10 pm Sr. Stars  Ages 8 & up

Ages: 5-15

Youth Cheerleading classes for ages 5-15. CYSC All-stars combines several different styles of cheerleading and dance into one super fun environment. Students will learn self-confidence, team work, coordination and spirit with our program! Student will have the opportunity to perform at various events! Don’t miss out on all the fun!!


Karate

Instructor: Michio Jimenez

Our karate classes offer a fun and structured program. Your child will develop strong individual skills both inside and outside the classroom. Students will gain more focus, balance, self-control, and confidence in their abilities.

All sessions: $60 res , $68 Nonres

Session I :  1/3 – 1/26

Session II: 1/31 – 2/23

Session III: 2/28 – 3/23

Days:  Mon, Tues, & Wed No class Jan 17 and Feb 21

Beginner: 4:30-5:30pm

Intermediate: 5:30-6:30pm

Advanced: 6:30 – 7:30pm

 

Japanese Taiko Drumming

Instructor: Julie Koga & Mary Jane Mayeda – Artesia Park

Taiko is the Japanese art of drumming. Learn basic form, drum beats and rhythms. Have fun learning and spending time coordinating drum beats with fellow students as class works on simple Taiko compositions. Class can be taken continuously at any level, however, students may be grouped by ability in order to facilitate learning. (Beg./Int). Ages 14+

Cost: $45/person, $75/2 people same household

Dates: Session I: 1/9 – 2/27

             Session II:  3/6 – 4/24   

Days: Sundays   

Times: 1:00-2:00 pm beginners

             2:15-3:30 pm intermediate (instructor approval only)
