It’s finally happening!
Artesia City Council is celebrating the imminent construction of downtown Pioneer Boulevard with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, March 12 at 4 p.m. The ceremony will be at the “bulb-out” in front of the Verizon building on the east side of Pioneer Blvd. between 183rd and 186th.
The Downtown Improvement Project is a major, vigorous plan to widen sidewalks, reduce traffic lanes, and to include a “pedestrian promenade” that would allow for pedestrians and public spaces (like an open air theater), as well as landscaping.
A monument will be placed at the Artesia boundary, at the southern end of the downtown area, with a globe signifying and celebrating Artesia’s status as one of the most diverse cities in the world.
These improvements promote business and improve the local economy by creating a shopper-friendly environment for visitors.
