After a few weeks of winter storms, Artesians welcomed a clear, bright, sunny morning March 11 at the Youth Baseball Opening Day at Artesia Park. The teams gathered on the freshly mowed outfield as their names were called out to join the parade of teams. Marta and Catarina Marques, a 5-year old duo performed the National Anthem, followed by staff, volunteers, and City Councilmember Miguel Canales, forming a line to greet each player with “high fives.” Once the teams returned to their positions, David Coleman, the new Parks and Recreation Director threw out the first pitch to Council Member Canales, which Tim Sagert, a Parks and Recreation Commissioner hit into left field for a clean single and the baseball season was officially opened. Fun was had by all!
